Wave of the winter.

Check out some of the North Shore's January highlights. I actually saw first hand Bruce Iron's entry and I can tell you that I don't think I will ever see anyone ride a wave like that ever again. Enjoy!

Surfers...

Small kine belly rash.

Found in Haleiwa

This afternoon I came across a stack of old Surfer Magazines from the 80's at one of the many surf shops in Haleiwa. I love looking at old surf stuff and I sat down and began to flip through the pages of neon clad surfers. Several minutes into my time travels I came across a particular issue from February 1988 with a young Sunny Garica on the cover and the promise of a "Surf Quest to the North Atlantic!" in the ensuing pages. I tore past the cover and quickly flipped past glossy pages proclaiming Kelly Slater to be the next hot young surfer until I came to big red letters that read, "The Canadian Maritimes."

Here is what the article had to say about the land of Christmas trees, clawed lobster and Moosehead Ale. (to read right click the picture and open in a new window)

This week in Hawaii

There was lots of rain this week but with the rain comes a rainbow.

"The magnitude 9.0 quake and ensuing tsunami that struck off the coast of Tohoku in Japan was so powerful that it broke off huge icebergs thousands of miles away in the Antarctic, locally altered Earth's gravity field, and washed millions of tons of debris into the Pacific." - msnbc.msn.com

Looks like that's where this can my friend Brenda found on her morning beach walk might of come from.

The Kaʻaʻawa Valley on the windward Oahu was a sacred place for the ancient Hawaiian's and today is home to the Kualoa Ranch. The Kualoa Ranch runs tourist activities such as horseback riding and hiking and is also known as the location for movies such as Jurassic Park, Mighty Joe Young, Pearl Harbor, Windtalkers, Godzilla, and Lost.

Last night at the Kualoa Ranch Camp Erdman hosted the kick off to it's annual fundraising campaign. The food was awesome, the location was beautiful and the hula dancers were fun to watch. To donate to Camp Erdman click here.

Update

I've been kind of bad this last week at updating the blog. So here are a few random points.

Superbowl:

Being in the States for the Superbowl is fun. I went to a really amazing house in Pupukea and ate so much food. I literally woke up this morning with a food hangover. I also had fun watching the American commercials. I'm not sure if this one ran up in Canada but I thought it was pretty funny.

Surfing:

The surf has been less than perfect the last few days. The winds have been acting up. On the weekend I had the time to drive to the east side to get a few waves but this morning I didn't have time so I wasn't able to surf. It sounds silly but it's actually hard being in Hawaii when you want surf. I kind of miss home when I can't surf.

Other:

I just finished reading the book, "Outliers" and I have to say it's a really good read. In short the book try's to explain exceptional individuals "outliers" and how they got to where they are. The book makes some very interesting points and if you're looking for an interesting read I seriously recommend it.

Carissa Moore is Awesome!

This morning I had an awesome surf! Ali’i’s was perfect and I had the pleasure of surfing with Carissa Moore. Carissa gets a ton of waves, surfs amazing and on top of that is really nice. In the line up she is super smiley and I was lucky enough to meet her when she was getting out of the water. I told her that I was from Canada and she asked me if I ever get to surf in the snow. When I told her I did she thought that was so cool and told me that one of her dreams is to get a picture of her surfing with snow on the beach.

For all the non-surfers out there Carissa is the current Women's World Champion. Check out how hard she rips in the recent Nike video Leave a Message. Click Here
